WooCommerce and Zapier, print only the orders you choose

Expedy already has a native WooCommerce app that prints every paid order, see WordPress/WooCommerce extension plugin. Use it first: it needs no third-party account and it carries the receipt layout settings.

Zapier answers a different question, printing only some orders, or printing on an event the app does not cover.

Zapier's WooCommerce connection requires a paid extension on the WooCommerce side. The native Expedy plugin does not.

When Zapier is the better route

What you want Native app Zapier
Print every paid order Yes Yes
Print only orders above an amount, or carrying a given tag or product No Yes, with a filter step
Print when a fulfilment is created, or an order is cancelled or refunded No Yes, pick the matching WooCommerce trigger
Send the same order to two printers by rule, kitchen and counter Tandem printer only Yes, one action per printer
Log the order in a spreadsheet or a Slack channel at the same time No Yes, extra actions in the same Zap

What you need

Build the Zap

  1. Pick WooCommerce as the trigger app and New Order as the event
  2. Optional but this is the whole point, add a Filter by Zapier step to keep only the orders you want on paper
  3. Add Expedy Print as the action, then Create a Print Job
  4. Connect your Expedy account with your Expedy SID and your Expedy TOKEN
  5. Enter the Printer UID, then build the message from the WooCommerce order fields

Format the ticket

What you want Where to look
Align, resize or emphasise text Text Layout
Print a logo or an image Image and Logo
Print a QR code QR Code
Print a barcode EAN13 Barcode

Which one to choose

If every order is printed the same way, stay on the native app: it is simpler and consumes no Zapier task quota. Move to Zapier the day you need a condition, a different event, or a second action alongside the print. Nothing stops you running both, on two different printers.
